If you’re like me, you’ve probably spent many late nights developing your skills as a creative professional. You have shared your work with the world on your online website. But now what? It would be nice to get clients from just posting your work on your website. Unfortunately, that is not how it works. The problem is that many people are being taught how to make portfolios through online websites. They are not being taught how to advertise themselves. It would be great if all it took was posting a project on your website and getting a client. However, you need to do more. You now need a marketing strategy to ensure your work gets seen by the right people. The good news is that I will be sharing ten tips with you to help you grow your following, and land clients through your social media channels.

7 Tips to Grow Your Following and Land Clients

Social media is such a powerful tool these days, especially for small businesses. Social media allows you to connect with customers, engage with your audience, and show the personal side of your business. When you communicate with customers on social media it enables you to highlight your expertise, and nurture these relationships. This goes a long way towards building your business. Without further ado let’s dive into these 7 tips on how to gain clients through your online presence.

1. Build Your Brands Awareness

Before you start posting random projects onto your social media accounts, take the time to build your brands awareness. I cannot stress this tip enough. People are more likely to buy from brands they know and trust, it is very important that they know about you. They key to doing this is to build social media profiles that that enhances your brand and builds awareness. Have a profile on social media forums that customers use regularly. Write an authentic profile, be true to yourself and your brand, then commit to posting regularly and connecting with people in your target market. Make sure you understand your target group well. Know the benefits and problem you are trying to solve for your customers. Ensure your target group understands how you differ from others; this will help your brand stand out. You may want to consider a social media strategy in order to build a consistent model for stakeholders and customers to understand your business. You can test targeted local ad campaigns on social media channels that earn immediate awareness. 2. Define Your Style

Once you build your personal brand, it is now time to build/ define your style. Your social media accounts should be an extension of your online portfolio and your personal brand. Make sure all of your accounts have the same look and feel to them. Imagine how confusing it would be for a client to easily find you on one account and go to another account and struggle or question whether it is your profile or not. Clients follow you because they love your style, so stay consistent. It is important to create a style because it gives your brand a unique identity that will help differentiate you and your work from other professionals. You want your followers to see your posts in their newsfeed and know right away that they are your illustrations. Decide if you want to keep your brand strictly business or add in photos of personal images such as grandma’s birthday. Sorry grandma, but some accounts should stay business and not stray too far from their aesthetic.

3. Make Real Connections

Now that you have built your brand and your social media style lets work on making connections with people. Let’s be honest, people use social media to connect with others, that’s no secret. While it is important to have a business social media profile to build your brands awareness, you need to engage with people to drive continued loyalty. Expanding brand awareness is all about building your community by interacting directly with followers encouraging referrals, and client testimonials. When you engage with your followers it helps build trust and integrity. Provide social media customer service by responding to any compliments as soon as possible. Like any positive comments and comment back with your appreciation. Reach out privately to people who mention you to offer referral or loyalty deals. Responding consistently and in a genuine way across all platforms can promote your brand. 4. Staying Relevant

After you have gotten some followers lets discuss the importance of staying relevant with your posts. Staying relevant on social media is easier said than done. However, this is a necessary component of attracting new clients through social media. Regularly produce content that is of use to your target audience. When people look for your company, they are looking for information that can help them solve their problems. Your content should reflect this. Develop an intimate understanding of your ideal customer this includes what they like, dislike, what they are interested in and what their habits are. You need to craft a content strategy that will engage your customer. Content that helps customers most includes step by step instructions, product demos, how-to videos and articles.

5. Did Someone Say Contest?

Are you now starting to build up followers? Want to keep them more engaged and maybe get some new followers? Good, it’s time to run a contest to attract leads. Competitions are not only a great way to increase your social media following, but to generate leads for your business. These contests encourage people to follow you, post on your page, share your page with others, or submit photos. In return you will get new followers, boost your traffic and increase your leads. Worried about spending money? Contests do not have to be expensive. You can offer a voucher or a fun prize and encourage people to share photos related to your business. You have very little to lose. 6.Use Social Media Groups

After you have built up a following, create some social media groups. I have already discussed the importance that people buy from those they know and trust. One way to become known is to create and actively participate in social media groups. More businesses are leveraging Facebook and LinkedIn groups to engage with their prospects in a more personal and meaningful way. You can use private groups as a forum for your business to ask questions about your products usage, delivery, or any other questions. Being quick to respond will make your business personal and relatable.

7. Encourage Social Recommendations

Last but not least, you want to encourage social recommendations. Many people look for recommendations before buying a product. People rely on reviews when making purchasing decisions. Social media makes it easier to share what other people think about your business. When customers write something positive about your business thank them and post it to your page. You can embed social recommendations on your profiles. You can set up widgets on your site so customers can rate your products. You can also offer incentives for customers who promote your business or products on social media. In conclusion you want to expand your brands awareness in order to gain more clients. Build your followers, define your style, make connections with people, stay relevant with your content, host contests, use social media groups, and encourage social recommendations, being creative with the tips we went over is a smart way to stand out from the crowd, become recognizable and gain more clients.
